New Versions of ‘Carrie’ and ‘Salem’s Lot’ Coming to Cable Television

Even though It: Chapter 2 performed below expectations, and Doctor Sleep recently nodded off at the box office, Stephen King properties are still being produced at a break-neck pace.  Both a new version of King’s debut novel, Carrie, and a return to Salem’s Lot are headed to the small screen in the near future.

Collider broke the news regarding the Carrie FX mini-series, but the details about the new production are about as thin as the plot for The Rage: Carrie 2.  So far, no director, writer, producer, or cast members have been announced and FX is confirming nothing at this point. read more

James Wan & Gary Dauberman to Bring Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot’ to the Big Screen

James Wan and Gary Dauberman- the creative team behind numerous entries in The Conjuring cinematic universe- are setting their sights on world of vampires. Their latest project involves bringing Stephen King’s 1975 classic novel, Salem’s Lot to the silver screen. The Hollywood Reporter says that Wan will produce the film and Dauberman will serve as screenwriter and executive producer.

Wan and Dauberman first collaborated in 2014 on the first The Conjuring spinoff, Annabelle. Wan produced the film and Dauberman wrote the script. This arrangement continued with Annabelle: Creation and The Nun; and now Dauberman will also direct the upcoming Annabelle Comes Home. There is currently no director announced for Salem’s Lot.  read more

‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ Director Tobe Hooper Dead at 74

Variety is reporting that seminal horror director Tobe Hooper has died at the age of 74. The cause of Hooper’s death is unknown at this time.

Hooper helped define modern horror film making with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in 1974, bringing a combination of gritty realism and nightmarish visions to this classic of horror cinema.  Along with his contemporaries such as John Carpenter, Wes Craven, David Cronenberg, and George Romero, he took the horror film from the gothic castles of Europe to the turbulent modern age, and introduced the world to a dysfunctional family the likes of which had never been seen before on screen. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre became the blue print for future horror directors everywhere, and it is still unmatched in terms of the creepy scares it delivers, without the buckets of gore that many people assume the film contains. read more
