Sony Delays ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ and ‘Morbius’

In a matter of a few weeks, several Hollywood studios have postponed big-budget films due to the global pandemic of COVID-19 in an effort to reduce social gathering in movie theaters for the time being. Now Sony has hopped on that bandwagon with delaying seven of their films which include Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the Spider-Man Spin-off Morbius according to Variety.

The rescheduling of these two films is as follows:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife to March 5, 2021 from July 10, 2020.

Morbius to March 19, 2021 from July 31, 2020. read more

Sony Pictures Unleashes ‘Morbius’ Teaser Trailer

After a very successful debut of Spider-Man villains spin-off films with 2018’s Venom, Sony Pictures is back with a new film starring Spidey’s bloodthirstiest foe! Morbius stars Jared Leto as the titular scientific vampire, and the studio just rolled back the curtain on a teaser trailer featuring his blood red eyes, pointy teeth, and upturned nose. Sony Pictures also released the following official synopsis of the film:

“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.” read more

Horror News Network’s Comic Awards 2019: Cover of the Year

While there were many covers this year that deserved consideration, we were all amazed at cover #1D for the first issue of Morbius by Marvel Comics. It took only a matter of seconds while scanning the image to know that the cover was graced by the art of Kyle Hotz.

Released on November 13, 2019, Morbius #1 follows Michael Morbius struggling to cure himself of his vampirism, and now, for the first time in years, one may be within reach. But the path to it is littered with dangers and worse.

First introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, Morbius has been a mainstay in the Marvel Universe appearing in cartoons, video games and the character will be played by Jared Leto in a film adaptation of Morbius which is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2020. read more

Set Photos Reveal First Look at Jared Leto’s ‘Morbius’

With production currently underway on Sony’s villain feature Morbius, new photos from the set have been shared online through Twitter. The latest post shows the first look at Jared Leto as Michael Morbius.

Also starring Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft, Jareb Harris (The Crown) as Morbius’ mentor and Tyrese Gibson (2 Fast 2 Furious) as an FBI Agent, Morbius is Sony’s adaptation of the Marvel anti-hero, Morbius the Living Vampire who was first introduced as the antagonist in The Amazing Spider-Man #101. read more

Jared Harris Joins Cast of ‘Morbius’

Just in from Deadline, Sony’s latest feature to be based on a Spider-Man villain titled Morbius has added Jared Harris to its expanding cast.

Known for his performances in AMC’s Madmen and The Crown on Netflix, Harris has signed on to play a role that currently is under wraps.

Set to star Jared Leto and be directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius tells the story of Dr. Michael Morbius, a character that first debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man issue #101. After attempting to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a treatment serum derived from bats, he is transformed into a vampire. He acquires all the strengths of a creature of the night, especially the taste for human blood. read more

Sony Sets Summer 2020 Release Dates for ‘Morbius’ and ‘Ghostbusters’

Two of Sony’s most talked about properties received release dates this week (according to deadline), as Spider-Man’s Living Vampire Morbius and a classic Ghostbusters sequel will be released during the summer season of 2020.

Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters will open on July 10, 2020 and Morbius (starring Jared Leto as the “not-quiet-dead” vampire) will come out three weeks later on July 31.  As of now, both films will have their respective opening weekends to themselves, with no current competition slated to open on either date. read more

Producers Update Fans On ‘Morbius’ Film Following Success of ‘Venom’

Following a record-breaking opening weekend for Venom, it comes as no surprise that Sony Pictures plans to continue creating its own Spider-Man shared film universe with the next being a solo film for Morbius: The Living Vampire, according to producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach who revealed details on the next villain they plan to bring to the screen.

Arad and Tolmach have confirmed Academy Award winner Jared Leto has signed on for the lead part, which follows his first venture into a comic book film when he portrayed The Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad. The producers suggest the film has a potential filming start date for February 2019. read more

Jared Leto Set to Star in ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-off ‘Morbius’

Hot off the heels of playing the Clown Prince of Crime aka the Joker, Jared Leto is sticking to his guns (and fangs) by starring next in the title role of Morbius, a film centered around the villain that originated in the Spider-Man comics.

Sony has tapped Leto to be the lead in the spin-off  and sources have told Variety that Daniel Espinosa (director of Safe House) will helm the movie.

Also the lead singer of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, Leto had met Espinosa in May while touring in Germany. read more

Jared Leto to Portray Vampire Anti-Hero ‘Morbius’ in Spider-Man Spin-Off

Fresh off of his unorthodox portrayal of The Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad, Oscar winner Jared Leto is going back to the comic book well once again.  Leto has signed on to tackle the role of Spider-Man villain/anti-hero Morbius in the upcoming Sony film of the same name.  This film is Sony’s latest attempt to spin-off of Spidey’s popularity with a feature film based on a secondary character.  The studio teamed up with Marvel Comics earlier this year with the release of the Tom Hardy vehicle Venom. read more

‘Morbius, the Living Vampire’ Adaptation Gets Screenwriters

The cinematic universe from Sony Pictures is now getting a lot bigger (and darker) with news coming from The Hollywood Reporter that a Morbius, The Living Vampire spin-off film is being developed and already has its screenwriters; Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama who worked on Power Rangers released in March of this year.

With the new Venom film starring Tom Hardy already in production, Sony Pictures brought on the screenwriters who wrote the script and submitted it to the studio after a secret development process. The duo are represented by ICM Partners. read more
