“Godzilla vs. Kong” Lands Horror Director Adam Wingard

Horror fans rejoice as we get a win for the good guy: Deadline has announced that Adam Wingard has been tapped to direct the next collaboration between Warner Brothers and Legendary Entertainment: Godzilla vs. Kong. Horror fans are definitely familiar with Wingard’s works which include You’re Next, V/H/S and A Horrible Way to Die.

The “MosterVerse” collaboration, as it has been called, kicked off with 2014’s Godzilla and was followed by the huge Kong: Skull Island earlier this year. Next up will be Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019 followed by Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong in May of 2020. Godzilla: King of Monsters is currently in production and stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown. read more

King Kong Musical Headed to Broadway in Fall of 2018

A musical based on King Kong will debut in late 2018 according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The musical has a number of acclaimed artists attached to the project, such as writer “… Jack Thorne, who won the Olivier Award for Best Play for penning the West End hit Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He also wrote the critically acclaimed play Let the Right One In. The score is composed by Marius de Vries (a contributor to the films La La Land, Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet) with songs by Eddie Perfect, composer and lyricist of the Broadway-bound Beetlejuice and Strictly Ballroom The Musical.” read more

“King Kong: Skull Island” Headed to Television?

If the brass over at MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television have their way, King Kong: Skull Island will be making its way to your television set courtesy of Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title; the folks responsible for The Bye Bye Man.

Described as a “serialized, contemporary continuation of the classic [film] with a female-led, multi-cultural ensemble that delves fully into the wonders and horrors of Skull Island and its origins”, KKSI (like that?) obviously hopes to cash in on the wild success of Warner Bros’ Kong: Skull Island without being a direct sequel. read more

Final Trailer Released for Kong: Skull Island

Warner Bros. Pictures has just released the final trailer for Kong: Skull Island. The lengthy clip, entitled “Rise of the King” dials back on some of the humor found in the previous trailer and ramps up the frequency and intensity of the giant monster battles that will be on display in the feature film. While John C. Reilly provided all of the comic relief in the previous trailer, Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston step up to the plate and add to some of Reilly’s signature awkward humor in this clip. This final trailer proves that even though the film will have a light side to it, it will also be chock full of interesting monsters for Kong to battle. read more

Godzilla 2 to be Written and Directed by Michael Dougherty

Horror News Network reported in October that Krampus and Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty would write the next installment in the Godzilla reboot, but Variety has reported today that he will also direct Godzilla 2.

Godzilla 2 will not only serve as the sequel to the successful reboot, but it will also  lead to a highly anticipated  rematch between King Kong and Godzilla in 2020. Variety’s Justin Kroll explained how this “Mega-Monster Universe” took shape when “In October 2015, Legendary and Warner Bros. made a joint announcement that all future “King Kong” and “Godzilla” films would be developed by Legendary and distributed by Warner Bros., starting with Kong: Skull Island in March (3/10/17). Legendary currently holds a distribution deal with Universal, but in order to re-team Godzilla and King Kong, Legendary decided to send the rights back over to Warner Bros. to be able to create this new “ecosystem” of giant super-species, both classic and new.” read more

Kong: Skull Island Trailer Proves Monsters Do Exist

First announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014, Kong: Skull Island looks like it may be on its way to being the successful reboot of the legendary King Kong story that Legendary Pictures is hoping for. While a trailer was released this past July at San Diego Comic-Con, a new trailer was released today that finally gives the world a full look at the iconic Kong.

Kong: Skull Island is the first film in what Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are hoping will be a huge franchise culminating in a King Kong versus Godzilla film. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly and Brie Larson and is slated for a March 2017 release. read more

Kong Skull Island Ride Opens at Universal Orlando

The Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride officially opened today at the Universal Orlando theme park.  The ride, which is based on the Peter Jackson’s remake from 2005, consists of both 3D effects and animatronic action in an immersive, highly detailed environment.  Plenty of dinosaurs, over-sized insects, and the big ape himself are featured in this attraction that carriers riders through the scenes in an enormous vehicle that can accommodate up to 72 people.

The ride capitalizes on the enduring fame of King Kong and the upcoming story continuation entitled Kong: Skull Island which will be released on March 10th, 2017.  The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel Jackson and is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.  read more
