Joss Whedon to Reboot ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ with Monica Owusu-Breen

Buffy’s back! 20th Century Fox Television are reportedly giving the iconic vampire slayer a brand new series, and they’re combining the talents of some of the folks who worked on the original 1997 series along with some promising newcomers to the franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter learned that Joss Whedon, the creator of the original movie and television series, will serve as executive producer on the new project and he is working with Monica Owusu-Breen (Midnight, TexasAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fringe) on the script. Whedon and Owusu-Breen previously worked together on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Owusu-Breen will serve as both writer and showrunner of the new Buffy series. Gail Berman, Joe Earley, Fran Kazui and Kaz Kazui, who produced the original Buffy the Vampire Slayermovie, will return to the new series as executive producers. read more

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Spin-off Book Series Coming Soon

Entertainment Weekly broke the news today that Buffy the Vampire Slayer would continue as a new young adult book series by author Kiersten White, introducing a new group of characters that will follow in the tradition of the well-loved originals.

The new series of books “…will be published in the fall of 2018, will be titled Slayer and will feature a brand new slayer from the group of potentials that Willow used her Wicca skills to awaken in the show’s final episode.”

Liesa Abrams, vice president and editorial director of Simon Pulse, praised the choice of White, stating that,“Kiersten White, whose work we deeply admire, is the perfect author to write an original series set in the Buffyverse. We couldn’t be more excited to have Kiersten on board to bring her skill and passion for Buffy together with one of the most influential properties in popular culture.” read more

On March 10th, 1997 at 9:00 PM, Buffy the Vampire Slayer made its debut on The WB. After seven seasons and a major spinoff, Angel (which ran for five seasons of its own), it’s safe to say the show has made a permanent mark on pop culture.
