New Annabelle 2 Promotional Image Released

Despite its 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes and its “B” Cinemascore, Annabelle earned $256.9 million dollars worldwide on a budget of just $6.5 million. While critics noticed a tremendous dip in quality from its source material, James Wan’s The Conjuring, fans all over the world gobbled up this creepy doll story that’s sort-of based on the experiences of Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Due to the incredible financial success of the film, New Line Cinema appears to be taking the sequel seriously. They hired David Sandberg (Lights Out) to direct, and Miranda Otto will star in the film. Sandberg has been releasing behind the scenes images to his Instagram account over the past few weeks, and now an official promotional image for the film has been unveiled: read more

James Wan Casts Longtime Collaborator Patrick Wilson in Aquaman

James Wan has great news for fans of his horror films. Patrick Wilson will play Ocean Master, Aquaman’s evil half-brother in Wan’s new Aquaman film.

Wan and Wilson have collaborated extensively in the past. Wilson has starring roles in both the Insidious and The Conjuring franchises, and Wan has often praised his work in interviews. In fact, James Wan once said that if he ever had the chance to direct a Batman movie, Patrick Wilson would be his first choice to play the caped crusader. Casting Wilson in this DC Universe role is pretty darn close to fulfilling that dream! read more

James Wan to Produce New Mortal Kombat Movie

Variety reports that a new Mortal Kombat film is on the horizon. Based on the popular video game franchise, the film will be produced by horror master James Wan (director of SawInsidiousThe Conjuring), among others. Simon McQuoid, a prolific commercial director who has not yet broken into the world of movies, is currently in talks to direct the film.

The first Mortal Kombat movie, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson in 1995, certainly led to the greatest fifth grade birthday party I could ever ask for; while the 1997 sequel was super cheesy, even to my middle school sensibilities of the time. Hopefully this new attempt will feature a successful mix of outrageous characters and gory action that Mortal Kombat fans krave. read more

‘Conjuring 2’ Spinoff THE NUN Coming

With the success of The Conjuring 2, New Line is already planning a spinoff featuring the villain of the film, a demonic nun.  David Leslie Johnson, co-writer on Conjuring 2, will be writing the film. Director James Wan and Peter Safran, who produced the films, will be reuniting to produce the spinoff.

The demonic nun character didn’t actually exist until three months before Conjuring 2 opened. She was added during last-minute reshoots after Wan decided on the new concept, rather than the original demonic figure with horns that was being used. read more

THE CONJURING 2 – Review

The Conjuring 2 – Review

By Lynn Sorel

Rating: 8 out of 10

Synopsis: Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

Our thoughts: James Wan has done what few directors are able to do with his sequel to The Conjuring. He made a better film with a more complex story and a more terrifying villain.

Much like the last film, The Conjuring 2 begins with a flash back to another Warrens case file. We start with the famous Amityville case, after which Lorraine said she no longer wanted to take on cases. The story then cuts to a a family, whose little girl named Janet who becomes the target of a malevolent spirit. read more
