M. Night Shyamalan Announces Sequel to Split and Unbreakable

M. Night Shyamalan’s career has had more twists than the endings to his movies! He scored bigtime early in his career with hits like The Sixth SenseUnbreakable, and Signs before slipping into mediocrity with flops like The HappeningThe Last Airbender, and After Earth. He began to win back fans with 2015’s The Visit, but his real second chance came with this January’s Split. Made on a budget of just $9 million, the movie earned nearly $275 million worldwide! While this may not be enough to wash the taste of After Earth‘s $60 million domestic gross against a budget of $130 million, it’s certainly enough to show that Shyamalan can still make likable and financially successful movies when given a small budget. read more

Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Split Released

A trailer for the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan thriller Split has been released. The film stars James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. Shyamalan teams up with his production partner on the The Visit Jason Blum. The film is said to return to Shyamalan’s roots, in the vein of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs, with an original story that “delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind.”

The official synopsis states: While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being. Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart. read more
