Coming off of an unusually busy (and profitable) winter season, this summer’s slate of horror films brings some well-known franchises, properties, and directors, as well as some expensive and inexpensive gambles to your local multiplex. These films will not only be competing with each other for horror fans’ dollars, but they will naturally also have to contend with the usual high profile tent-pole action and super hero films. A24 (the studio responsible for a wide variety of critically acclaimed horror films as well as a slate of current Oscar contenders) has just released the first trailer for Trey Edward Shults’ horror film It Comes at Night.
The trailer exudes a menacing, claustrophobic atmosphere and hints at an unknown presence lurking in the woods. The haunting artwork of Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel (entitled “The Triumph of Death”) offers our first glimpse of a potential “hell on earth” scenario for the unlucky families trapped in the close quarters of the house and the dark forest. read more
