Guillermo del Toro Receives Hollywood Walk of Fame Star; Offers to Finance One for Legendary Monster Make-Up Artist Jack Pierce

Oscar winner and fan favorite writer/director Guillermo del Toro (known as a super fan of monsters, horror, and Disney’s Haunted Mansion) received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today, and, true to his nature, took the opportunity to promote one of the trail blazers of make-up design, Universal Studios’ Jack Pierce.

In his acceptance speech, del Toro recalled visiting the Walk of Fame as a boy in the 1970s, and looking for the stars for “…Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Alfred Hitchcock, you know, and one that I didn’t find and I will make the point to nominate and finance myself is Jack Pierce because he was one of the greatest make-up men and creators in our genre and he has never been honored with one.” read more

Gillian Anderson Receives Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Emmy-winning actress Gillian Anderson has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which was unveiled on Monday, Jan. 8.

Anderson’s star is the 2,625th since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961.

Known best for her co-headlining role of FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the science fiction series The X-Files, Anderson received Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy nominations from ‘96 to ‘99, winning in ‘97 for her performance in the series. She won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress the same year. read more

Campaign for George Romero’s Walk of Fame Ceremony Announced

On July 18th of this year, the world lost an absolute legend in Mr. George A. Romero.  Romero, who was not only beloved within the horror genre, but incredibly influential to filmmakers all around. It was announced last year that he would be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which if you ask any fan they would agree it is way overdue.

A fund raising effort has been set up to raise money for the ceremony to honor the Godfather of the zombie genre and director of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Creepshow, Day of the Dead, amongst many others.  Romero’s friend, and fellow legend, Malcolm McDowell appears in a short video on the page via Generosity. read more
