Arrow Video has followed up on their stellar release of Dario Argento’s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage with a beautiful restoration of his second giallo thriller, The Cat O’ Nine Tails. While some believe that Cat is evidence that even master directors like Argento aren’t immune from the fabled “sophomore slump,” Arrow’s release lovingly presents the material in a way that highlights all of the excellent qualities of the film and proves its deserved spot among the auteur’s most memorable works.
Forty years ago Dario Argento’s giallo masterpiece Suspiria was released and now production has wrapped on it’s remake. While remakes are generally not something to get excited for, especially when it’s a remake of a genre classic, this particular remake features an amazing cast and a very passionate director.
An all-star cast of Tilda Swinton, Chloe Grace Moretz, Dakota Johnson and Mia Goth was directed by Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) who told Empire back in 2015 that, “the film by Dario Argento was a very indicative moment of growing up for me because I saw it when I was 14, I think it changed me forever. I was obsessed with Argento through all my adolescence.” read more
Justin Kroll of Variety broke the news today that Chloe Moretz will star in the lead role of director Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake. Earlier this year, The Playlist reported that Moretz dropped out of Universal’s Little Mermaid film to pursue other films.
It appears as if Moretz decided to trade in her fins for a pair of ballet slippers as she will join the previously announced co-stars Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson. Kroll suggests that Moretz is looking to add more adult roles based on this choice, stating that “Moretz has been drawn to more adult fare following her breakout performance in adult action pic Kick-Ass. While plenty of those pics were non-genre based like Hugo and The Equalizer, the 19-year-old has done plenty of work in pics with horror or supernatural elements, including Carrie, Let Me In, and Dark Shadows.” read more
