Halloween Doritos Debut in Japan!

As reported by B. Allan Orange of Movie Web, Frito Lay has just released a Halloween-themed Doritos flavor for the season in Japan.

The Doritos are jet black and covered with garlic seasoning.  You can even catch an illustration of Count Vlad Dracula lamenting the fact that he can’t eat them, but he sure wishes he could on the back of the bag.

This horror-themed snack follows the summer release of GhostBuster-themed burgers at Japanese fast food chain J.S. Burgers Cafe.  The burger featured “…a black olive and anchovy paste beef patty topped with tomatoes and purple cabbage sandwiched between a black bun.”  The chain also released a “dessert burger” called “the Marshmallow Mad Burger” which consisted of  “a ghostly white bun and is filled with marshmallows, Oreos and raisins and topped with a “blood” garnish.” read more

Our friends at Funko are at it again with their third series of horror-movie themed Mystery Mini figures. With over 50 versions of Mystery Mini toys, including four series’ of The Walking Dead, two series’ of Horror Classics and two WWE series’, Funko has built quite a following among genre fans and toy collectors who eagerly await the next big release.

Both previous series’ of the Horror Classics sets were wildly popular as they included figures of famous horror characters like Hellraiser’s Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Frankenstein’s Monster and many more. GhostBusters Box Office: D.O.A. or Here to Stay?

The weekend estimates for the Ghostbusters remake have been released and the new film finished second to The Secret Life of Pets with a total of $46 million at the box office from July 14th to July 17th .  This total is comprised of Thursday night, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday totals.  Many analysts predicted a second place finish to current animated juggernaut Pets, but is this a disappointment or a hopeful start for the most embattled film of the summer?

Looking closer at the box office totals, Ghostbusters debuted with 3.4 million on Thursday, which is a competitive number, comparing to other films that finished around the $50 million dollar mark for their first weekends.  One alarming stat shows that Ghostbusters was the only film in the top 35 at the box office this weekend that declined from Friday to Saturday ($17,200,000 vs. $16,350,000). Every other film at the local multiplex saw an increase in attendance on Saturday.  Sunday’s current estimates clock in at $12,450,000 which shows the film dropping in attendance across the weekend. read more

Ghostbusters Remake Continues to Fuel Controversy and Mixed Reactions

With only two days before its release, The Ghostbusters (2016) remake is still making headlines, with wildly mixed reactions to the film.

The remake has been a lightening rod for controversy since it was announced that the film would not be a sequel to the previous two entries in the series or star any of the original cast.  This heated up when an-all female cast featuring some of the most prominent comedians from the big and small screen was made public.  The film quickly became a battle between two perceived groups:  male fans of the original films and cartoon and female fans of the director Paul Feig’s previous hits such as Bridesmaids and The Heat (most prominently starring new Ghostbuster Melissa McCarthy). read more

Ghostbuster Toys Already on Clearance Before Film’s Release?

Multiple fans around the country have been snapping pictures of toys and action figures based on the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot with clearance stickers on them.

This is a surprising move, as the film won’t be released until July 15th of this year. All pictures that can be found on the internet are from Target. There have been no reports of mark-downs at other national retailers such as Toys ‘R Us or Walmart at this time. Many are attributing the drop in price due to the backlash against the new film by hardcore fans of the original films and cartoon series. read more

Is GHOSTBUSTERS Really Deserving of all the Hate?

With the release of the new trailer today, I felt inspired to share my thoughts on the Ghostbusters reboot.    The first trailer  is said to be the most disliked movie trailer of all time  on Youtube. This film has not even been released yet and it has a building mountain of hate against it.      I’m a huge fan of the classic so I understand that sentiment towards a reboot of a classic film.   However, I do not think most people being objective, even in just viewing the trailers.    I’ve seen some funny moments in the trailers, and   you can see that   this film is made in the same  spirit of the old films.   Fans are so hung up on the fact that we have new characters, and… gasp! “they are women,” that they are not giving this a fair chance, even in the slightest.   I’m as sick of remakes as the next person, however, I think people need to step back and think, if this was with male characters if they would be so upset?     read more
