‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’ Episodes 3 & 4: The Horror News Network Review

The first two episodes of FX’s American Horror Story: Apocalypse lacked even a hint of the highly-touted crossover spectacle the season was promised to feature. Well, that moment finally comes in the last two minutes of Episode Three, after Michael Landon (Cody Fern) kills off the entire new cast (except for Kathy Bates’ Miriam, because- surprise!-  she’s a robot now), and the witches from Season Three’s Coven waltz into view. By Episode Four, we’re knee-deep in crossover territory, right down to an unexpected return to American Horror Story: Hotel‘s Hotel Cortez. Fortunately, all of the returning faces of yesteryear- including Emma Roberts and Gabourey Sidibe- don’t slow down the progression of the story and, despite the occasional flashback, actually end up keeping things moving forward. And, while there’s no shortage of ridiculousness to go around, this manages to be one of the most engaging seasons of American Horror Story in years. read more

Violet and Tate are “Together Forever” in New ‘American Horror Story’ Shot Featuring Taissa Farmiga and Evan Peters

One of the most popular elements of American Horror Story when it debuted in 2011 was the complicated romance of young Violet and Tate, played by Taissa Farmiga and Evan Peters respectively. We now have definitive evidence that American Horror Story: Apocalypse– the upcoming crossover season featuring characters from Murder House and Cult– will continue their story. Showrunner Ryan Murphy posted a new image of the star-crossed lovers in an Instagram post entitled, “Tate and Violet: Together forever?”: read more

Billie Lourd to Return in ‘American Horror Story’ Season Eight

Billie Lourd fans were certainly disappointed when her first Ryan Murphy horror series, Scream Queens, was prematurely cancelled after just two seasons… but it looks like she’s found a permanent home on Murphy’s other big horror franchise! After a lead role in last season’s American Horror Story: Cult, Lourd will indeed be returning for Season Eight.

Deadline reports that Lourd has been cast in the upcoming season alongside co-stars such as Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, and Joan Collins. Details on Lourd’s new character have not yet been revealed, and all we know about any of the upcoming parts is that Collins will play the grandmother of Peter’s character. read more

Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Kathy Bates Return for ‘American Horror Story’ Season 8

Coming from Variety, series Creator and Executive Producer Ryan Murphy has revealed regular cast members Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Kathy Bates are set to return for season eight of American Horror Story.

Bates was unavailable for AHS season seven, titled Cult, during production on the Netflix series Disjointed, which she was the lead character in. As that series has not been renewed, Bates’ schedule was freed up to work on the coming season of AHS.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy said, “Kathy [Bates] and Sarah Paulson have a lot of great stuff to get to do. So, with Evan Peters, the three of them are the leads this year.” read more

‘American Horror Story: Cult’ Episodes 2 & 3: The Horror News Network Review

Nick Banks, HNN’s resident AHS reviewer and commentator, had such a reaction to the pilot episode of Cult that he’s taking a breather under doctor’s orders. You can read the review that sent him over the edge by clicking this link. While he’s resting up, I’ve agreed to share my thoughts of Episodes Two and Three of the season.

I must admit that I’m having a similar reaction to American Horror Story: Cult. After watching the first three episodes, I am developing Ally Mayfair-Richards’ unusual phobia of holes… I find all of the plot holes in the script to be utterly terrifying! read more

‘American Horror Story: Cult’: The Horror News Network Review

Last season, after watching the last few episodes of American Horror Story: Roanoke, I vowed that I was done with the series after too many instances of incoherent story-telling, on-the-fly shifts in focus, and over-the-top performances.  What could bring me back to this consistently infuriating mess?

More than anything, American Horror Story has always had problems with pacing and the aforementioned abrupt shifts in focus, narrative, and style. How could I even get through one episode after the terror-inducing choices made by Ryan Murphy last season?  Well, I took some advice from fellow HNN staffer John Evans.  He suggested that I took a segment-by-segment approach to this review (akin to ingesting Miralax in small gulps) so I could make it to the end of the episode and track my reactions.   Here are the fruits of my labors, divided into small, bite-sized, stream-of-consciousness segments: read more

Trailer for American Horror Story: Cult Delivers Blistering Social Commentary

Buckle up American Horror Story fans because the official trailer for season 7 just dropped and it presents what could be quite a fiery season.  As creator Ryan Murphy has promised, this season will be tied into last year’s US presidential election.  This first look begins on election night with Sarah Paulson’s character gasping in fear and Evan Peter’s character cheering wildly.  This divide is an obvious nod to the disparity revealed from the US election last November.

With American Horror Story: Cult, Murphy has a real opportunity to provide a horror show with substance.  Knowing that real life can be scarier than fiction, he looks to be intertwining political and social chaos into this season.  In the trailer, we see Peter’s character utter the words, “If you get people scared enough they will set the world on fire.”  Judging by this initial peak, fans can expect an intense and sinister social commentary. read more

Scream Queens’ Billie Lourd Cast in American Horror Story Season 7

While the future of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens is currently uncertain, fans of the franchise have something to be excited about: Deadline reports that fan-favorite Billie Lourd (Chanel #3) has been cast in Murphy’s other big horror television franchise, American Horror Story! She is set to star in Season 7, which will be an allegorical tale somehow related to the 2016 U.S. election cycle.

Science fiction fans know Lourd, the daughter of the late, great Carrie Fisher, for her appearance in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. She is also set to return in Episode VIII: The Last Jedi this winter. On Scream Queens, her character is known for her sarcastic, yet endearing, personality and fashionable outfits. At this time, the details of her role in American Horror Story are under wraps. read more
