Unfortunately, many artists only gain the recognition they deserve after an untimely death. Gary Reed (5/2/56 –10/2/16) certainly falls into this category. Reed is most prominently remembered by fans as one of the writers of Deadworld, but his greater influence comes from his role as a publisher.
We are sad to report the passing of horror comic legend, Gary Reed. His wife, Jennifer Andrews Reed, posted the news of his passing on her Facebook page just a few moments ago.
The Caliber Comics publisher was at the forefront of horror comics in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Through the publishing company, Reed released The Crow, Deadworld, Caliber Presents, Moontrap, and more.
Reed took over as head writer of the zombie classic, Deadworld on issue twelve of the original series. The series continued through mini-series throughout the years and even had a few of the series collected into trade paperbacks by IDW Publishing. read more
