Gillian Anderson Responds to News of All-Male Writers Room for Next Season of ‘The X-Files’

In the entertainment industry, it seems that sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same! In the same summer where Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman became the highest-grossing live action film to be directed by a woman and Sofia Coppola became the second woman ever to win “Best Director” at Cannes Film Festival, The Washington Post just reported that the writers room for the upcoming season of Fox’s The X-Files consists entirely of male writers.

This isn’t the first time that the show has been associated with gender inequity. When The X-Files first returned to the airwaves in 2016, Gillian Anderson revealed that she had initially been offered half of what her male co-star, David Duchovny was offered to return to the series. Fortunately, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Anderson and Duchovny ultimately earned equal pay for the event series after concluding negotiations.  read more

The X-Files to Return in Second Event Series in 2017-2018

We’ve got some good news for fans of Fox’s The X-Files who couldn’t get enough of the 10-episode revival series which ran in early 2016! After a long period of planning and scheduling, Indie Wire reports that Fox plans to bring back the series for another 10 episodes during its 2017-2018 television season. Chris Carter, David Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson are all set to return for the upcoming project, and production will begin as early as this summer.

Teaser Video Released for The X-Files: Cold Cases

Audible has released a teaser video for The X-Files: Cold Cases, a new audiobook series based on a graphic novel series written by Joe Harris. Series creator Chris Carter will provide creative direction for the project, and the series will feature the voices of franchise favorites David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, and more. Second THE X-FILES Event Series Installment Likely Next Year

At the upfront press call for Fox, Fox TV Group chairmans Dana Walden and Gary Newman were asked about another The X-Files event series and spoke optimistically about the possibility of another.

Walden said,”We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.”   She said, although that everyone involved is currently working in various places worldwide, that “hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.” read more

Chris Carter Says Fox Wants More ‘X-Files’ in Future

In an interview with THR, Chris Carter revealed that Fox is going to want more episodes of ‘The X-Files’ in the future in light of the high ratings for the show.   They have not negotiated anything yet and the process could take sometime, however it will happen. It is just a matter of when.
