Denis Villeneuve Says David Bowie was First Choice to Play ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Antagonist

David Bowie was more than a musician. In addition to his unbelievable body of musical work spanning six decades, fans also know him for his incredible acting performances in films like Labyrinth and The Prestige. Unfortunately, it seems that every couple of weeks we are learning that his untimely death prevented him from appearing in more films. We learned in May that director James Gunn wanted to cast Bowie as one of the original guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Trailer Released for Gothic Horror Film ‘The Lodgers’

Did you enjoy the historical and gothic nature of Guillermo del Toro’s period ghost story Crimson Peak? If so, Epic Pictures Group has a film on the horizon that might be your cup of tea! Entitled The Lodgers (no relation to David Bowie’s classic Berlin-era album of a similar name), the film offers up a chilling ghost tale with a rich classical setting. The movie was directed by Brian O’Malley (Let Us Prey), and it features performances by Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class, Locke), Charlotte Vega (The Misfits Club, Another Me), David Bradley (Captain America: The First Avenger, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones), Eugene Simon (Game of Thrones, Ben Hur), and Moe Dunford (Vikings, Patrick’s Day). Don’t Breathe Director Fede Alvarez to Create Film Set in Labyrinth Universe for TriStar

Jim Henson’s 1986 film, Labyrinth has been the subject of renewed interested as of late. Some of it is due to the film restoration and merchandise releases related to the movie’s 30th anniversary, and some of it is due to the unfortunate passing of David Bowie. Now’s a better time than ever for TriStar to renew the series, and Deadline reports that they’re planning to do just that. 

Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent, the announced Metal Gear Solid project) and Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe) are currently working on The Girl in the Spider’s Web for Sony as writer and director, respectively. When that project concludes, the two will move on to work on a project which takes place in the magical world established in Labyrinth.
