‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’ Scene Premiers Ahead of Release

Premiering October 11 on Nickelodeon, a scene from the Are You Afraid of the Dark miniseries has been uploaded online to give viewers a glimpse of what’s in store.

First aired in 1990 and continuing until 1996 and again from 1999 to 2000 in a second series, each rendition of the show focused on a group of storytellers who called themselves “The Midnight Society.” They would gather every Saturday night at a clearing in the woods for a member to tell a tale around a campfire that would often include ghosts, witches, goblins and other spooky creatures. read more

Nickelodeon Bringing Back ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ as a Limited Series

Following the unfortunate news of losing IT screenwriter Gary Dauberman, Are You Afraid of the Dark? as a film has been put on the back burner for now, however Deadline brings word that the show will be brought back this coming October as limited series to the network where it began for viewers in the USA, Nickelodeon.

Continuing the tradition of a group of friends, known as The Midnight Society, gathering around a campfire to tell scary stories every Saturday night, the upcoming horror anthology will be aired as three one-hour long episodes. read more

‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ Movie Loses Writer

Apparently, the creators at Paramount Pictures need nightlights because Are You Afraid of the Dark? the movie has not only been pulled from its October 4 release date but according to Slash Film screenwriter Gary Dauberman has parted with the project entirely, leaving its current status unknown.

Initially, Dauberman was going to pen the film’s script and produce the adaptation of Nickelodeon’s 1990’s hit series, but in the interview he had this to say, “No, that actually hasn’t shot yet. That’s one of those things I’m no longer a part of. I just had a different vision to make it and thought it best to part ways. It’s unfortunate but as you said, that’s sometimes how it goes.” read more

D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ Movie

Submitted for the approval of Horror News Network’s readers, Disturbia director D.J. Caruso is in talks to helm Paramount’s movie adaptation of Are You Afraid of the Dark? according to a recent article.

Credits of Caruso also include I Am Number Four starring Alex Pettyfer, Teresa Palmer and Callan McAulliffe; Vin Diesel’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage and the 2016 psychological horror film The Disappointments Room which starred Kate Beckinsale.

2017’s IT co-writer Gary Dauberman will produce alongside Matt Kaplan. read more

“Are You Afraid of the Dark” Gets a Release Date

Most horror fans will remember the Nickelodeon show from the early-to-mid 90’s, Are You Afraid of the Dark. A group of teens who referred to themselves as “The Midnight Society” would meet up in the woods and each week one would tell a different scary story by starting off with, “submitted for the approval of The Midnight Society, I call this story…”.
