On Monday, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced Apple TV Plus, the tech giants biggest push into streaming video. In a video that played at the event, Steven Spielberg said that he would be heading up the new Amazing Stories series for Apple TV Plus.
Amazing Stories is a science fiction magazine which debuted in April 1926 by Hugo Gernsback’s Experimenter Publishing. It was the first magazine devoted solely to science fiction.
Amazing Stories came to TV screens across the country in the 80s as the anthology series ran for two seasons which totaled 45 episodes from 1985 to 1987. The series boasted some heavy directorial talent including Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Matthew Robbins, Joe Dante, Martin Scorsese, Tom Holland, Mick Garris and Tobe Hooper. There was talent in front of the camera as well with Gregory Hines, Sid Caesar, Dom DeLuise, Harvey Keitel, Robert Picardo, John Lithgow, Mark Hamill, Andrew McCarthy, Danny DeVito, Patrick Swayze, David Carradine, Kyra Sedgewick and Weird Al Yankovic. The series was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and won five.
