Kelly Overton (True Blood), Neil LaBute, Jonathan Scarfe (Hell on Wheels), Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels), Paul Johansson (Mad Men), David Cubitt (Ray Donovan) and Tim Guinee (Homeland) have been cast in Syfy’s upcoming ‘Van Helsing’ series.
The 13 episode series reimagines the story with the resurrection of Vanessa Helsing (Overton), a Van Helsing descendent, who must lead humanity against a vampire-controlled world.
Scarfe is cast as a loyal marine named Axel. Heyerdahl will play a vampire Rising survivor named Sam. Cubitt will play another Rising survivor named John, who is angry, suspicious and prejudice. Johansson is cast as Dimitiri, the patient calculating vampire leader, and Guinee will play vampire foot solider Ted.
Writer/showrunner LaBute said, “We’ve been extremely blessed to get such a wonderfully talented and diverse cast for Van Helsing.” Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures Chad Oakes added, “Kelly will be an amazing Vanessa and our lead cast is nothing short of outstanding.”
Michael Nankin (Hell on Wheels), Jason Priestley (Haven), David Frazee (Orphan Black), Simon Barry (Continuum) and Amanda Tapping (The Magicians) will be directing the series. It is set to begin production February 22 in Vancouver, BC.
Chad Oakes & Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, Neil LaBute, Simon Barry, Evan Tyler, Zadoc Angell and Dave Brown from Echo Lake Entertainment, along with Daniel March (Dynamic Television), are executive producing the series.
