Netflix’s surprise summer hit Stranger Things renewal was all but confirmed by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings when he recently told the British news outlet the Guardian that“we would be dumb not to”. Stranger Things has captured a wide fan base, engaging both horror and science fiction fans and those that love the coming of age tales of directors Steven Spielberg and John Hughes. The series, created by Matt and Ross Duffer, currently sits atop IMDB’s favorite television programs (above perennial favorite Game of Thrones) and also earned a certified fresh rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series, which combines 80’s nostalgia with references to everything from the Uncanny X-Men to Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, will also release a soundtrack of hits from the decade that it takes place in. No date has been announced as of yet, but if you can’t wait, Netflix recently posted a Spotify playlist with such diverse acts as Reagan Youth, Echo and the Bunnymen, Toto, and Dolly Parton. Just like the program itself, the music also draws from the era and has the ability to satisfy a wide-range of music fans.
