Shudder Acquires Japanese Supernatural Horror Film Sadako vs. Kayako

Shudder (the AMC-owned digital horror network) recently acquired the popular Japanese import Sadako vs. Kayako.  For those unfamiliar with the titles characters, the film features a showdown between the demons from Japan’s two most popular ghost franchises: Ringu and Ju-On (known to North American fans as the Ring and The Grudge).  The film is directed by  by Koji Shiraishi (director of Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman and Grotesque).

After the film’s North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival’s “Midnight Madness” in September and a brief festival run, Sadako vs. Kayako will stream exclusively on Shudder in late 2016.

In the official press release, General Manager Linda Pan stated ,“As the home for the best in curated horror, we are excited to bring this fun-packed face-off between two worldwide horror icons exclusively to North American Audiences,”.

The film was originally released on June 18, 2016 in Japan.
