Police in Fort Myers, Florida are saying that there has been a shooting at the annual ZombiCon. On person is dead and five were injured. It happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night, which was 15 minutes before the end of the event. Police said a 20-year-old named Expavious Tyrell Taylor died at the scene. He played football a local junior college. No other details surrounding his death were released. The four injured were taken to the hospital and had non-life threatening injuries. Police said that the suspect is still at large and have not released any other details.
ZombiCon draws more than 20,000 fans in it’s annual event, most of whom come dressed as zombies. An eyewitness said “There are people dressed up and some walking around with guns. How do you know they aren’t real? Any event I come to, this will be in the back of my mind.”
ZombiCon released a statement on their FaceBook saying “The organizers of Zombicon, Pushing DaiZies, Inc. are deeply saddened by the news of what happened within the footprint of our event. We take the safety of our patrons very seriously and take precautions in hiring security and police officers for our annual event. Our prayers go out to the family members and individuals involved in the incident.” They are also asking if anyone has information about the shooting to please come forward.
