Award-winning singer and entertainer Selena Gomez is expanding her cinematic resume with the new psychological horror film Dollhouse.
Gomez–who will produce the movie through her July Moon Productions along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen (of Stranger Things fame)–also is in talks to star in the feature, according to Deadline. Patricia Braga of STX will oversee the project with 21 Laps’ Emily Morris.
Few details have been shared at this time, but the movie–set within the New York City high-fashion scene–reportedly is similar in tone to Black Swan, the 2010 psychological thriller for which Natalie Portman won a Best Actress Oscar. The screenplay for Dollhouse was written by Michael Paisley.
STX Film’s Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement that “teaming Selena with Shawn and Dan’s expertise in the horror/thriller genre will elevate Dollhouse, and we couldn’t be more thrilled by the way this is being developed.”
Gomez–well known for her accomplishments as a recording artist–also has had success in TV and film. She had a starring role as a teenager in the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place (2007-2012) and recently signed up to reprise her lead female role of Mavis in Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 4.
