Scream Renewed for an Abbreviated Third Season

MTV’s series adaptation of Wes Craven’s classic, Scream, has been renewed for an abbreviated third season, consisting of only 6 episodes.  This news hits just before the Scream Halloween two-hour special.

Returning in 2017, it is unclear as to whether or not the third season will be the final for the show.  With viewership down by almost half for the second season from the first, MTV is once again changing up showrunners, replacing Michael Gans and Richard Register with someone yet to be announced.  For fans this news is probably met with mixed feelings.  While the show will return, it appears that the fate of the show seemingly hangs in the balance.  I must admit, I personally was not expecting this show to be as well done and engrossing as it is. It would be a shame to see this one go since it’s the best non- reality show on MTV since, well…since they actually played music videos.

Fans will have to savor every gory drop of the incredibly short 2017 season when Emma, Audrey, and Noah return back to school. Horror fans can only hope enough viewers watch to secure a fourth season of Scream.
