New Horror Comic Book ‘Stillwater’ Will “Run Deep” In September

Two award-winning comic book creators have teamed up on a new horror entry from Image/Skybound Entertainment–a chilling ongoing series called Stillwater.

According to a press release, the first issue of this creator-owned comic–the brainchild of Eisner Award-winning writer Chip Zdarsky (The White Trees), Shuster Award-winning artist Ramon K. Perez (Tale of Sand) and colorist Mike Spicer–is slated to hit comic book shop shelves this Sept. 16.

Stillwater–described as a cross between Gideon Falls and The Walking Dead–relates the trials and tribulations of the titular town where “nobody dies. That’s not just a promise. It’s a threat.”

Zdarsky noted that this eerie notion is one he has been working on for some time now. “I’m thrilled people are finally going to see Stillwater,” the writer said. “This idea’s been percolating in my brain for years now, and it’s been fun working with Ramon to build this tiny, strange world.”

He also expressed his love for the horror genre. “I’ve always wanted to write a horror comic so I can show the world that I’m not just creepy, I can also write creepy,” Zdarsky said. “I love getting to explore immortality on a small stage,” he added, “the idea that you can live forever, but just within such a constrained space. It’s been a treat getting to write characters struggling with that terrifying deal.”

Perez added that he was elated to bring that horrifying concept to life through his artwork. “It’s been a joy to step away from the super-hero genre and delve into the horror, thriller and a dash of mystery genre with Chip on Stillwater,” he said. “I hope readers are as unsettled as I was drawing the book.”

In addition to comic book shops, Stillwater No.1 will be available to fans on such digital platforms as Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology and Google Play.
