Netflix Cancels ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’

On Wednesday, Netflix announced the cancellation of the supernatural series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, with the final episodes to be released in late 2020, according to a report by Deadline.

The series, starring Kiernan Shipka as the teenage witch Sabrina, premiered on October 26, 2018. Based on the Archie comic book, the series centers around young Sabrina as her 16th birthday nears she must choose between the witch world of her family and the human world of her friends.

The series received generally positive feedback from fans and critics alike. According to review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the initial season of the series rated at a whopping 91%. The following seasons scored big as well, with season 2 sporting a 81% rating and season 3 coming in with a 90% rating.

In addition to Shipka as Sabrina, the series stars Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Abigail Cowen, Adeline Rudolph, Richard Coyle, Miranda Otto, Lachlan Watson and Gavin Leatherwood.

“Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from Day One. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show,” said developer, exec producer and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four.”
