‘Leprechaun Returns’ Coming to Syfy Network in March of 2019

Just when you thought it was safe to enjoy a Shamrock Shake…the Leprechaun returns!

According to SyFy Wire, “The film picks up 25 years after the events of the 1993 original, which found a maniacal leprechaun doing whatever it takes (including committing gruesome murder) to track down his stolen pot of gold. The leprechaun menaced Tory Redding (Jennifer Aniston) until he was finally defeated by shooting a four-leaf clover down his throat. Leprechaun Returns finds the leprechaun revived in the modern day when a group of sorority girls unwittingly awaken him while tearing down a cabin to build a new sorority house. The new sequel is written by Suzanne Keilly (Ash vs Evil Dead) and directed by Steven Kostanski (The Void).”

The Leprechaun began as a cheap holiday themed horror comedy in 1993 “… that turned out to be a surprise hit, which spawned a follow-up, Leprechaun 2 (in 1994). Leprechaun 3 in 1995 went straight to video, then the franchise headed to space for the positively bonkers Leprechaun 4: In Space in 1997. The franchise then got another reboot in 2000 with Leprechaun in the Hood, followed up by Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood in 2003. The series took a break until 2014’s reboot Leprechaun: Origins, and now the series is going back to its roots with Leprechaun Returns.”

The Leprechaun film also achieved a degree of fame when the little fella was mentioned in 1993’s Wayne’s World movie.  For those of you who don’t remember, Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) terrified co-host Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) with his impression of the tiny Gaelic terror on an episode of their local cable access program.
