Just when you thought it was safe to answer the door again, a director has been found for The Strangers 2. Various sources are reporting that indie film vet Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door, Forest of the Damned) has been named to helm the horror sequel, a follow-up to the 2008 hit starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. Roberts joins a staff that already includes the original movie’s writer and director Bryan Bertino; Bertino will also co-write the script for the sequel, along with screenwriter Ben Ketai (The Forest).
The Strangers 2, which will be produced by The Fyzz Facility Pictures in association with Relativity Media, follows a family of four whose road trip take them to a secluded trailer park. While spending the night, they are terrorized by three masked intruders who intend on doing harm. At this time, it is unknown if these home-invaders will be the same ones as from The Strangers, or a new set of psychos. There were earlier rumors that Tyler would return to reprise her role from the original film in some capacity, but that has yet to be confirmed. Filming for The Strangers 2 is scheduled to begin sometime this summer.
Roberts appears excited to begin filming. He says that he can’t wait to “bring the brilliant set-up from the first movie to a new generation and deliver a powerful sequel.”
The Strangers 2 does not yet have an official release date, but is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2018. Stay tuned to HNN for more details as they develop.
