Hulu Drops Devilish ‘Helstrom’ Trailer, Premiere Date

Give the Devil his due. Marvel has finally unwrapped the first trailer for its highly anticipated Helstrom series–and it shows that the comic book (and blockbuster movie) giant can indeed handle horror.

The trailer–which can be viewed below–teases the new supernatural series that will debut on Hulu on Oct. 16 during the streamer’s Huluween promotion, as reported by

The series was created for Hulu by Paul Zbyszewski, who will act as showrunner and will lead the project alongside Jeph Loeb, the head of Marvel Television, who will serve as executive producer. The show is co-produced by ABC Signature Studios and Marvel Studios.

Helstrom, as reported here in Horror News Network, is based on Marvel Comics characters Daimon Hellstrom and his sister Satana, created by Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich and John Romita Sr. For television, the protagonists now are Daimon and Ana Helstrom.

In the initial 10-episode season, viewers will be introduced to Daimon (a professor of ethics by day and an exorcist by night) and Ana (who runs an auction house), the children of a “mysterious and powerful serial killer” who is revealed to actually be a demon who drove their mother, Victoria, into an insane asylum. With supernatural powers of their own, the siblings set out to “hunt the worst of humanity.”

Zbyszewski said the series will add “scares” to the successful Marvel formula of “heart, humor and action” and will look to “dissect some of our deepest fears.”

The show stars Tom Austen (Daimon), Sydney Lemmon (Ana), Elizabeth Marvel (Victoria), Ariana Guerra (Gabriella), Robert Wisdom (The Caretaker), June Carryl (Dr. Hastings) and Alain Uy (Chris).

The people in front of the cameras were met with high praise from Zbyszewski. “We feel incredibly fortunate to have landed a cast loaded with this much talent,” he said. “From the beginning, we knew we’d need a group of actors who were multifaceted, who could play all the cards any great Marvel show promises to play–from dramatic thriller to comedy to action.”
