Genre-Transcending Actor Alan Rickman Passes Away

We have yet another loss to report this week. Alan Rickman, known widely for his unforgettable voice and his roles in ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Die Hard,’ has passed away. He lost his battle with cancer at the age of 69.

Even if you didn’t know his name, you know his voice and more than likely his face.  Rickman transcended genres and left his mark on everything from action, comedy and romance, to thriller/horror as well.   My personal favorite horror featuring him was Tim Burton’s ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ from 2007. It is also one of my all-time-favorite horror films.   He wasn’t in many movies in the horror genre, however ‘Sweeney Todd’ was far and away the standout, and alone makes him worthy of mention on our site.

Last year I covered news about him being cast in another horror film that I was excited to see called ‘The Limehouse Golem.’ You can view the original article here. It is not listed on his IMDb, and I have no more information about it. If it was filmed, I hope it will be released in the future for fans to see.

He also starred in films such as ‘Dogma,’ ‘Galaxy Quest,’ ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ and many, many others.  Most recently, he is in the upcoming ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass,’ in which he reprises his role as the voice of the blue caterpillar from the 2010 film, Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ Rickman was one of my favorite actors and he will be missed.
