One of the most well loved and enduring sagas to come out of the black & white horror boom of the mid 1970's, the illustrated Skywald Horror-Mood masterpiece "The Human Gargoyles" returns, featuring a re-presentation of the original series chapters with reworked art and an all new long awaited conclusion by original series artist Maelo Cintron and new series writer Richard J Arndt.

The Human Gargoyles are Edward and Mina Sartyros, two European Gargoyles accidentally brought to life by a satanic cult. Rather than living as demons, they strive to be human. Finding circus work and giving birth to a child, Andrew, they migrate to America to make a new life for themselves. Being Gargoyles, as well as illegal immigrants, they experience much prejudice and hatred. Travelling the country searching for respect, freedom, and knowledge, they eventually become American citizens, along the way encountering Satan's minions, as well as some human monsters. Throughout the story the characters show that they are full of emotion, hope, and humanity.

Notable authors Stephen King and Ramsey Campbell contributed the following observations about The Human Gargoyles.

"Vital... constantly moving ahead, breaking new ground, an innovative story"
-Stephen King

"As polemic and social comment it works better than almost any other monster saga, by refusing to be taken as a literal monster story; it drops its living Gargoyles into contemporary America as symbols, and the alienating juxtaposition works, maybe because Cintron gives the Gargoyles a sad dignity and alieness without sentamentalism"
-Ramsey Campbell

Maelo Cintron is one of comicdom's unsung heroes. His artwork is simply beautiful, some of the best to ever grace black and white comics. Through the use of a variety of techniques, Maelo has created an incredibly smooth, textured, dynamic style that brings out the emotion, beauty, and sensitivity of the Gargoyles story visually. Maelo has worked over the years for Skywald, and has produced covers for Famous Monsters Of Filmland, Castle Of Frankenstein, From The Tomb and the Star Trek line of paperbacks. He has also worked with the legendary Arthur Suydam, best known recently for his Marvel Zombies cover work for Marvel Comics. An interview with Maelo was published in the February 2007 issue of the UK magazine From The Tomb #21.

Al Hewetson was the original writer/co-creator of The Human Gargoyles and the editor, chief writer and driving force behind the much beloved Skywald Horror-Mood magazines of the 1970's. Sadly, Al Hewetson passed away on January 6th of 2004. Maelo was his favorite artist to work with and the only one he allowed to co-plot stories with.

Richard J Arndt has plotted and written the conclusion to the original Gargoyles saga. Richard and Al worked closely together on the checklist and appendix for Al's book "The Complete Illustrated History of the Skywald Horror-Mood" published by Headpress and corresponded with each other on a regular basis up to and including the day of Al's untimely death. Richard has published short stories, non-fiction and poetry, along with a series of interviews that have begun to appear in the Eisner award winning comics related periodical Alter Ego. His complete Skywald checklist along with interviews with Maelo Cintron and Al Hewetson can be found at www.enjolrasworld.com.

George E Warner is superggraphics. His involvement began in October of 2006 when he rediscovered the Skywald line of magazines and contacted Maelo about re-presenting and concluding the original Gargoyles saga. Since January of 2007, George has spent an enormous amount of time and expense restoring the original chapters and serves as editor and head of production on the series.

Currently in pre-production.

Projected Format:
Magazine Size. Black & White interiors with Color covers.
Six issue mini series. 3 chapters per issue.
17 chapters in total with chapter 17 being double-sized.
Total length 162 l 171 pages.
