The Walking Dead made its return last night on AMC. Rick's group of survivors seems to be steadily falling apart.

Read a recap of the episode by Jacki Clark here:

Everyone living is infected with the virus. That has been firmed up.

Here is my question: Why does being bitten by a walker (zombie) change a living person into a walker?

My guess? The dead's bite carriers fluids (saliva, blood, etc) that are not only contaminated with a non dormant form of the virus, but also lethal amounts of bacteria which cause a blood poisoning that kills the victim triggering the transition to a walker.

That makes sense, GR. Thanks for the response.

What is your opinion concerning a person getting Walker blood in the mouth or eyes? Would that also turn a human into a zombie?

Getting Walker blood in their mouth might cause infection, but I suppose that would depend on the amount and length of exposure. Eyes I wouldn't think so.

We've seen plenty of the survivors get sprayed with blood and gore from zombies they've killed without any ill effects, so I imagine that infection comes only with introduction of the contaminated blood directly into the blood stream of a living person.

I see. Smile Thanks for discussing this with me, GrayRider. I know it's nerd-talk, but I enjoy talking about these things. Now I have a better understanding of the Walker virus and how it works.

Happy to do it. Nerd-talk is the best kind! Wink

I talk about zombies, surviving the outbreak, scenarios, and the like all the time with my friends.
