Looking for readers for my scifi/horror webcomic -

Current page as of this posting -

Read more at XTIN.NET

I've been through growing pains with the art and story, but I think it's getting solid now.

Trying to hook up with the audience XTIN was meant for. I've had a lot of "sicko sicko" in other places Very Happy

Hello matey. I have been browsing, sorry to keep you waiting.

The artwork's pretty solid first of all. A lot of grisly detail to the dismemberment. Admittedly after handling the bodies of dead animals a lot recently its not quite far enough to unsettle me personally. Cool

But as also you get a few votes from me in regards to backgrounds and architecture, something that not many of the top webcomics seem to have much patience with IMO. Granted other Horror comics might also keep scenery in mind but still.

Storyline, wise i like it. It's apocalypticly brutal, and its a ride to read as you go through each page thinking "that leading lady is a prick"

You mentioned in several places you were having possibly an uphill battle with maintaining an engaging story. In my experience, dialogue is normally the biggest hurdle with this, because i think you often have to shake off your influences as much as adhere to them.

I remember when i first started out my shit a couple of years back, i was strongly influenced with what was big at that time (as in Frank Miller and Alan Moore). The problem with imitating stories like DKR or Electra assassin is that those comics can get away with that kind of narrating because there's an immediate history that the reader can relate (i.e. they've read previous comics with those guys). New comics can't really do that as well because they're banking on a new story with a history that's only just started, so to speak.

I'm not knocking you, but its worth keeping in mind. If you're creating an audience or reaching out to a current one, you have to keep your presentation direct to them. And that's again based on some personal experience, when i first started showing my stuff around it was to mates who were in the Sonic, Megaman, or someone else's closet, and it wasn't too often i gained a serious interest from them (although yeah they did still support me and buy my goods so bless them). So yeah food for thought.

Apart from that, keep holding the torch mate. Might add a banner link to you. Smile

And by the way.

I salute you for your defiance. Crossbones

Thanks for the reply.

For whatever reason, there seems not to be a great presence of horror fans online. Look at TopWebComics, they don't even have a category for horror. The horror forums I've looked at are relatively dead (har har har). You'd think horror would be huge on the internet, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Writing dialogue for this story is troublesome. The characters are far removed from us in space and time, what would they talk like? Shakespeare is barely, barely comprehensible, although he spoke the same language I do and only lived a few hundred years ago. If I could design a unique dialect, which is doubtful, I don't think it would go over well. But I don't want the characters talking like snarky 2000 era Americans either.

I'll keep drawing XTIN until the first GN is finished, and if it doesn't have an audience by then I'll move on to anime and furries. My vote banner is a little tongue-in-cheek, I read the comics whose characters are being massacred in the banner (in a non-copyright violating way, of course, but you might be able to guess who they're supposed to be).

I've started running old concept art as a vote incentive, so if you want to see it click the button -

Anyway that brings the O'keepa to an end. Poor High Priestess, looks like she did it for nothing.
