Hei Everybody...

I've been reading the Corpse forums here for over 3 years, and decided it was finally time to sign up and introduce myself.

It is truly amazing to see how much support is out there for the world of The Living Corpse that Ken & Buz have created. We're really looking forward to expanding that world through the storyline of the movie which covers a big part of the history that has never been touched upon in the books. So far, it has been a massive challenge to really capture the awesomeness of The Living Corpse in a movie format while also injecting some of the serious character development and drama that has become something of a trademark in my previous film works. I don't want to give too much away or really get too deep without being able to show you something to slake the thirst, so I'll stop more less here with regard to discussing details of the movie.

Before I sign off, however, I did want to post a more current version of the teaser image that has been floating around. The one that you've seen on the Corpse Movie thread is actually an early render created for shader/light interaction testing, but it wasn't actually meant to make the rounds - but with so many moving pieces, the true image got lost in the shuffle and the wrong one hit the street.

So here's our boy Corpsey as you'll see him in the movie, scars and all:

Thanks, everybody, for all the support and love you've shown. It is only a matter of time before we start paying you back with fresh new issues, trades galore, and - of course - the movie 3 plus years in the making!

...wishing the best...

Thanks for the welcome, everybody Wink

If any of you have questions specifically related to the writing/direction of the movie while in progress, feel free to ask; I might not be able answer everything for legal (or spoiler) reasons, but I'll do what I can. Once the movie is actually released, I'll start a new thread where we can talk about your thoughts/questions post-viewing.

Can you give us a overview on what we can expect from the movie?

Hello! Sure. I don't want to spoil anything, but I'm happy to talk a little about what we are trying to do.

My favorite comic books and comic book themed movies have been and probably always will be the ones where see something about the beginnings of our heroes. Inception stories hold a certain intrigue, because they show the humble starting point - a point where we could almost see ourselves - and there-in lies the door to true connections with the characters from our favorite books. Personally, I have never really been a 'Superman' fan, because there was never really anything for me to identify with when comparing my own life to that of a super dude, born super, from a super planet, coming here to do super things; now, I may stand to get bashed a bit here for saying so, but I think the 'Smallville' series actually helped to finally open the doors for people to connect on a more emotional level with the character by giving years worth of his inception in the form of his high school life. So with all that said...

In the first official issue of the current story-arc (issue #0), Corpse returns home after climbing from the grave, followed by a brief encounter with Astaroth - then for the second issue (issue #1) and onward, we flash forward many years to his current ass-kicking self embroiled in various ass-kicking adventures.

At first, we attempted to follow the comic storyline very closely, including almost all of the characters from the various issues. After several months of brainstorming and treatment writing, the whole creative team was sitting there thinking, "this is cool, and it really captures the entire story-arc of the first 14 issues"... But then we also started to wonder if that was the best idea, because at that time we'd only released one or two official issues and putting out a movie that would actually spoil the comic arc seemed like a bad/unfair move for the devoted fans of the book who buy it each month to see something new. That was when it really hit me to explore something that the books never touch.

I became very interested in the events that might occur between issue #0 and issue #1. Developing a chain of events that show what it might have been like for Corpse as he acclimates to life as an undead dude was really fun and challenging; additionally, we were able to fold in small pieces from the actual issues, laying groundwork for understanding the deeper connections that the book doesn't delve into as much. Basically, a more elaborate inception story came forth and hopefully gives a new dimension to our favorite ass-kicking Corpse.

Maybe it seems strange to start off in one direction and end up going in a completely different one - but many times the best creative stuff comes from circling around your pray like a pack of carnivores. And in this case, it actually becomes double cool, because we already have an awesome head-start on a follow-up that would cover the story-arc of the comic series rather closely, including Lilith and many of the other awesome characters that we weren't ready to reveal for this movie.

So that's about all I can say. Maybe I've said too much already Razz Corpse is a really interesting character with so much room for exploration that it can be hard to stop adding adding adding - but I think we've got something different and cool that should be a rewarding companion piece to the books.

Hope that helps to answer some of your questions without being too vague Wink

Thanks again to everybody for all the support given to Ken, Buz, Corpse and the rest of the team.

...wishing the best...
