Desilu Studios, Inc has just announced that they will be teaming up with writer and director Kenneth Johnson to bring the beloved classic V to the big screen. Johnson, many will remember, is the creator of the 80s cult classic show.
“We are delighted to team up with Desilu to bring the timeless — and timely — story of resistance against tyranny into the 21st Century,” Johnson said. “V will be the first of a cinematic trilogy which will tell the full epic tale in the manner I always envisioned.”
Premiering in 1983 as a two-episode miniseries, V tells the story of seemingly friendly aliens (referred to as Visitors) that come to earth in need of aid for their ailing planet. In exchange for resources, the Visitors offer technology that would help advance the human race. The governments of earth like the idea and quickly open their arms to the aliens. Before long a group of humans discover the true horrific intentions of the Visitors.
The mini-series was such a success that is spawned a three-part miniseries sequel in 1984 called V: The Final Battle. That was followed by a full-blown TV series which aired from 1984-1985 featured nineteen episodes. Most recently in a reimagining of the 1983 V series aired on ABC in 2009. That series lasted two seasons and tallied a total of twenty-two episodes.
