The Resident movie

Hammer Films thriller The Resident will hit theaters in the spring of 2011. Image Entertainment picked the film up for distribution.

Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Christopher Lee star in the thriller about a young doctor who moves into a loft in Brooklyn where mysterious occurrences lead her to suspect that she is not alone in her home. She discovers that her seemingly charming landlord has developed a dangerous obsession with her, resulting in a terrifying game of cat and mouse.

The movie is described as:
Rayne fights against the Nazis in Europe during World War II, encountering Ekart Brand, a Nazi leader whose target is to inject Adolf Hitler with Rayne’s blood in an attempt to transform him into a dhampir and attain immortality.

Mothers Day movie remake

Darren Lynn Bousman announced today that his remake Mother’s Day will be released on April 1, 2011.

Gigapix Studios, the distributor, is giving the film a theatrical run.Synopsis: In this highly-anticipated psychological horror thriller from renowned director Darren Lynn Bousman and producer Brett Ratner, two mothers (Rebecca De Mornay and Jaime King) will give the holiday terrifying new meaning as they battle to protect what is dearest to them.

Dark Shadows to start production in April

Deadline is reporting on some vaguely fresh news as it looks like a start date is finally in sight for Warners Dark Shadows. It’s star Johnny Depp’s and Tim Burton’s hotly anticipated next collaboration and movie. Seth Grahame-Smith, who made his Hollywood entry writing novels that put a macabre twist to literary classics and historical figures, recently snagged the high profile job of writing the new draft of the 1960s gothic daytime serial featuring the juicy role of vampire Barnabas Collins whom Depp has had a long obsession wanting to play.

The film has been slated to begin production in January but today was pushed back to April. It’ll be a joyous occasion when it finally goes behind cameras. Over 1,225 episodes, “Dark Shadows” was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

John Carpenter to produce The Hell Within

The Hell Within movie

John Carpenter has boarded Brazilian helmer Dennison Ramalho’s horror pic “The Hell Within” as an exec producer.

Story, which is penned by Jeff Buhler, tells the story of a woman who goes on a quest into the heart of a Brazilian jungle to save a girl, only to discover that the girl was bait.

The Howling: Reborn Cast

Landon Liboiron, Lindsey Shaw and Ivana Milicevic will all star in Moonstine Entertainment’s The Howling Reborn, which is currently in post-production under the direction of Joe Nimziki.

The film is described as:
On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past… that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will’s growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them… and then, us all.

Stephen Sommers adapting Odd Thomas

Screen Daily confirms Sommers is adapting the Koontz novel, writing and directing the feature film adaptation for producers Howard Kaplan and John Baldecchi. According to Production Weekly, Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing, G.I.Joe) is going to tackle an adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel Odd Thomas as well.

Super 8 release date

Super 8

Paramount Pictures has set a June 10, 2011 release date for J.J. Abrams’ secretive summer spectacle Super 8, starring Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, Gabriel Basso and AJ Michalka.

Death of a Ghost Hunter director Sean Tretta is back with The Frankenstein Syndrome, starring Tiffany Shepis.

A beautiful young stem-cell researcher, Elizabeth Barnes (Shepis) joins a secret research group attempting to develop a stem-cell based universal healing serum. Despite opposition from the project leaders Marcus Grone (Louis Mandylor, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Dr. Victoria Travelle (Patti Tindall, The Graves), she quickly develops a serum that can bring the dead back to life – but with horrific results. Distraught, Elizabeth tries to leave the project, but the project’s financier (film vet Ed Lauter) orders Marcus to hold the research team captive until their research is complete. When one of the project’s security guards (Scott Leet, Freeway Killer) is murdered and then re-animated, the team must contend with a man who at first is like a child, but quickly becomes something much, much more…
