IFC Films acquires Julias Eyes

IFC Films has acquired the Spanish supernatural thriller Julia’s Eyes. Written and directed by Guillem Morales, and produced by Guillermo del Toro, the film stars The Orphanage’s Belén Rueda. The movie is described as: Julia returns to Bellevue with her husband to visit her sister Sarah, who is near blind due to a degenerative illness for which she has unsuccessfully undergone surgery. When they arrive, Julia finds that Sarah has taken her own life and none of her mysterious neighbors seem to be all that surprised. Julia has to confront not only the loss of her sister, but also the loss of all hope halting her own impending blindness, as she suffers from the same illness and would appear to be destined for the same end as her sister.

Molly Parker joins Dexter

TV Line posted the news, stating that Parker, known to many for her role as Alma Garret in HBO’s drama Deadwood, has been cast to play the role of the sister to Colin Hanks’ character, Travis. She’s set to appear in several episodes of Season 6. As TV Line notes, details on Travis’ character are scarce, but that’s to be expected as much of the plot of Dexter’s sixth season is being kept under wraps.

Fox and Harris in talks for World War Z

Matthew Fox and Ed Harris are in talks to join Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and James Badge Dale in the Marc Forster-directed World War Z for Paramount and Skydance Productions. World War Z is a detailed tale in which a researcher for the U.N. Postwar Commission interviews survivors from countries all over the world, 10 years after the crisis, to gather a first-person post-mortem on a zombie war that obliterated every country on the map.

Bests of Burden movie announced

Beasts of Burden movie

Dark Horse comic Beasts of Burden is heading to the big-screen with Shrek and Chronicles of Narnia director Andrew Adamson leading the charge.

Adamson is producing what is intended to be a CG-animated feature adaptation with his Strange Weather Films partner Aron Warner along with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment.

Trollhunter DVD and Blu-Ray Release Date

Trollhunter has a DVD and Blu-Ray debut date of August 23. Trollhunter is described as: A group of Norwegian film students that set out to capture real-life trolls on camera after learning their existence has been covered up for years by a government conspiracy.

More directors for The ABCs Of Death announced

Drafthouse Films, Timpson Films and Magnet Releasing have secured genre heavyweights Xavier Gens (Frontiers, Hitman) and Christopher Smith (Severance, Black Death) to join Noburo Iguchi (RoboGeisha, Machine Girl) and Kaare Andrews (Altitude) along with 21 other directors to make up the talented roster behind THE ABCs OF DEATH, a twenty-six chapter anthology feature that showcases death letter by letter. The 26th Director spot will be determined by short film competition to discover an aspiring new talent. The winning filmmaker will receive a $5000 cash prize and will be included in the final release of the film. Participants will choose their own word and create a short film based off the letter “T.” The interpretation of the word and the format of the short film will be entirely up to competitors. The top 10 shorts will be determined by public voting and the winning director will be selected by the 25 ABCs OF DEATH directors to become the 26th and final director. “We expect a lot of talented folks around the world to step up to this challenge, I just hope someone attempts T is for Tabanid (blood-sucking insect) or Taws (a thong used for punishment)” said Ant Timpson. Submissions are open now and close on October 1 at midnight PST, and there is no entry fee to submit. Finalists will be announced October 31st and the winning filmmaker announced on November 15th. James Badge Dale cast in World War Z

Variety reports that James Badge Dale, best known for starring in the tv miniseries “The Pacific”, has joined the cast of Marc Forster’s World War Z. Based on the novel by Max Brooks, the film is about a worldwide infestation of flesh-eating zombies. Brooks — the son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft — wrote a detailed tome in which a researcher for the U.N. Postwar Commission interviews survivors from countries all over the world 10 years after the crisis to gather a first-person post-mortem on a war that obliterated every country on the map.

Bill Moseley cast in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

Rumor has it that Bill Moseley has been cast in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. The actor will not be reprising his role Chop Top, instead he’s playing Drayton, formerly played by Jim Siedow. The new 3D film will be directed by John Luessenhop and concerns a young woman who travels to Texas to collect an inheritance.

Rage – Midsummers Eve casting news

Hot off the press comes the latest news about the upcoming, American horror film, Rage – Midsummer’s Eve which will begin its principal shooting in Helsinki, Finland and near the Finnish Arctic Circle in July.

The film hosts a cast of experienced talents, with over ten years of professional acting, as well as new and fresh talents who have already gained a lot of global attention, especially in the UK and other European countries. The cast have been in such films as Farewell (starring Willem Dafoe and Diane Kruger), The Knot (starring Mena Suvari and Bafta –winner Noel Clarke) and Twenty8k (starring Bend it like Beckham and ER starlet Parminder Nagra).

Troll Hunter remake rights acquired

Deadline says Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures has partnered with CJ Entertainment & Media to acquire remake rights to the 2010 Andre Ovredal-directed Norwegian film Troll Hunter. Marc Haimes is set to write the script. Deal comes just as Magnolia opens the original Troll Hunter in the US and on VOD. The documentary-style film is about a group of students whose investigation into a series of mysterious bear killings leads to something sinister. They wind up following and documenting a mystery man who turns out to be a troll hunter. Columbus will produce with 1492 partners Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe, and CJ Entertainment. Filmkameratene AS’s John M. Jacobsen (who produced the original) will also be a producer along with his partner Sveinung Golimo.
