1925 Phantom of the Opera coming to Blu-ray

The 1925 silent classic starring Lon Chaney is coming to Blu-ray this November. In an early announcement to retailers, Image Entertainment is prepping ‘Phantom of the Opera’ for Blu-ray on November 1. Lon Chaney is Erik, the horribly disfigured Phantom who leads a menacing existence in the catacombs and dungeons beneath the Paris Opera House. When Erik falls in love with a beautiful prima donna, he kidnaps her and holds her hostage in his lair. This horror classic, presented in its 1929 re-edited reissue version, features a rare early 2-color Technicolor sequence. The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, an uncompressed mono soundtrack, and supplements will include: Phantom of the Opera Trailer, Gabriel Thibaudeau Interview, Photo Gallery, Phantom Script, and Phantom Souvenir Program Reproduction. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $39.98.

Flatliners remake in the works

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland’s 1990 medical thriller Flatliners is to be brought back to life. Columbia Pictures executives have commissioned Source Code screenwriter Ben Ripley to revamp the storyline for a planned remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original chronicled a group of medical school students dabbling with death as they investigated myths about the afterlife.

Ghostbusters 3 to begin filming in 2012

Dan Akroyd recently appeared on Dennis Miller’s radio show and shared some details Ghostbusters 3. According to Akroyd, filming will begin on Ghostbusters 3 in 2012 – with or without Bill Murray. “What we have to remember is that Ghostbusters is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver],” he added. “The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of Ghostbusters 3 is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.”

Eric Kripke to adapt Deadman

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is writing and executive-producing an adaptation of DC Comics’ Deadman, according to Deadline. Deadman centers on Boston Brand, a circus acrobat who is murdered but continues to live on when a supernatural being enables him to possess the living. He then finds himself torn between finding and exacting revenge on the man who killed him and using his new ability to help others.

Showtime developing The Damned

Deadline reports that Showtime has put in development The Damned, a drama series project based on independent graphic novel and comic book publisher Oni Press’ comic book limited series. The comic is described as: During the prohibition era, gangsters grew rich on vices of the people, and rivalries between criminal organizations resulted in open war. But unknown to the masses, a more sinister power controlled the crime cartels, using greed, gluttony, lust, and other sins to fuel a much more lucrative trade: mortal souls. Three demon families (the Aligheris, the Roarkes, and the Verlochin) control soul-trafficking within the city, capitalizing on “the rackets” to lead unfortunates into their grasp and poor Eddie is caught in the middle?

Clifton Collins, Jr. joins Pacific Rim

Clifton Collins, Jr. will joins Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi in Pacific Rim, says Variety. Pacific Rim is described as: Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Faces in the Crowd DVD and Blu-Ray news

Faces in the Crowd has a release date DVD and Blu-Ray on October 25. Faces in the Crowd chronicles the account of elementary school teacher Anna Marchant (Milla Jovovich) who is attacked by a serial killer known only as Tearjerk Jack and survives, but is left to struggle with a neurological disorder commonly referred to as face-blindness (prosopagnosia). Only able to recognize voices she fights to adapt to her diagnosis and the ever-changing faces of those around her. Working with Detective Kerrest (Julian McMahon) Anna race’s to identify her attacker. All the while the killer is closing in determined to eliminate this potential witness. Only Anna has seen his face – and he could be anyone.

New Inbred posters have been released. Inbred is described as: A disparate group of young urban offenders and their care workers embark on a community service weekend in the strange, remote Yorkshire village of Mortlake, which prides on keeping itself to itself. A minor incident with some local inbred youths rapidly escalates into a blood-soaked, deliriously warped nightmare for all involved.

Epic Pictures Group is in a pre-production on the giant arachnid movie, MEGA SPIDER. The movie is described as: A 50 feet tall alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampage the city of Detroit. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed.
