Beetlejuice to Return with Tim Burton

It was announced last year that Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg were attached to develop a new Beetlejuice. According to an interview with MTV, original director Tim Burton reveals that he’s actually considering a return. “Yes,” Burton boldly stated when asked if he’d consider doing another Beetlejuice. “I love that character, and Michael [Keaton] is so great in it. I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to [“Vampire Hunter” writer] Seth [Grahame-Smith], “If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I’ll look at it freshly.” In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it.” In speaking of running his ideas by Burton, he explained, “No. I told him to try some stuff, but he hasn’t come back to me yet. Michael was so great in it. I’m sure he’d strangely tap right back into it.”

The River Revealed at TV Critics Panel

Today, press attending ABC’s TCA panel got a sneak peek at and heard from the creative of The River, a new series coming Dreamworks Television.  Following the panel, our man on the scene, Scott Huver, caught up to series creator, Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity), for a brief Q&A. Set on the Amazon, The River stars Bruce Greenwood, Joe Anderson, Paul Blackthorne, Paulina Gaitan, Leslie Hope, Eloise Mumford, Shaun Parkes and Thomas Kretschmann and begins Tuesday, February 7.  Described as more like The X-Files and less like Lost, the show concerns the search for a famed explorer lost in the Amazon. Peli began developing “The River” as a movie. As it grew bigger, he ended up meeting withf Steven Spielberg, who also executive produces the show. “It actually started with an idea I had for a movie that was much more simple than “The River” evolved,” Peli said. “It was just a documentary crew gone missing and the mission to find them. Then I had a meeting with Steven Spielberg and he told me, ‘Hey, we should do a TV show together.’ And I’m thinking okay, sure. At that point I was barely figuring out the world of movies, I knew nothing about TV. He was like, ‘Why waste this on one movie? You can turn it into a TV show.’ Then we thought of the idea of making it on a boat on “The River”, pitched it to Dreamworks.”

The Devil Inside The Sequel?

With an astonishing $34 million opening this weekend, talk of a sequel to Paramount Pictures’ The Devil Inside couldn’t be avoided. The Wrap spoke to Steven Schneider, one of the movie’s executive producers. “It’s a little premature,” Schneider told TheWrap Sunday. “Everybody is processing what happened — the remarkable weekend we had — and feeling really good about that.” “Certainly the filmmakers and Lorenzo (di Bonaventura) and I would all love to explore that with the studio and I think we believe that there is absolutely the potential to carry forward our storylines from the original. It would be a rather organic and fun process — and one that would lead to great results.” What would you like to see in a sequel? It’s only a matter of time before it’s official…
