Revisiting the Beasts of Burden

Beasts of burden comic

Staff writer, Stephanie Shamblin Gray, has submitted her latest article: Revisiting the Beasts of Burden.

Founded in 1986, Dark Horse is no stranger to horror comics. As the third largest comic book publisher in the U.S. and a leading publisher of licensed comics material, Dark Horse is a favorite here at ComicMonsters.com with titles such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Hellboy”, and “The Goon”. Another Dark Horse comic, the re-vamped classic “Creepy”, was voted the Best Anthology in the 2009 ComicMonsters.com Horror Comic Awards. But that is not all that Dark Horse has to offer. Here is a look at another offering that is not as well known but may be a classic in the making, the “Beasts of Burden”.

Wizard World Anaheim 2010 recap and pics

Wizard World Anaheim

Due to a couple of Wizard World hiccups, the Horror Pavilion at Anaheim was really more like a Horror Booth. Here’s hoping that Wizard is a little more organized in Philadelphia and remembers that they are advertising a Horror Pavilion and makes it a little more accessible for the fans. Nevertheless, Michael Hein and Joe Mauceri were on hand to discuss the New York City Horror Film Festival Killer Shorts Sudden Death Film Competition and preach the independent horror film gospel.

Crossed movie news

Crossed comic

Taking a page from the Kick-Ass playbook, Ken F. Levin has mustered Kevin Spacey’s Trigger Street Productions, Michael De Luca and Jason Netter to help independently finance and produce an adaptation of Garth Ennis’ horror comic Crossed.

As Variety notes, director Matthew Vaughn took a similar route with Kick-Ass after studios passed on the $28-million film. It opens today in the U.S.

Debuting in 2008 from Avatar Press, Ennis’ creator-owned Crossed follows survivors of a zombie-like plague that causes those infected to carry out their most evil thoughts and desires — murder, rape, arson. Carriers of the virus are known as the Crossed because a cross-like rash appears on their faces.
