TV Series of The Purge Soon To Be A Reality?

Cinemablend is reporting that popular movie series The Purge is being turned into a television show by series creator James DeMonaco. The movie series has had three highly successful films and the writer/director is very excited about the prospect of being able to tell these stories in a different format, specifically in ten, one-hour segments.

Speaking about the format idea, DeMonaco told Cinemablend, “… why I like the idea of a maybe 10 hour TV thing on this, the one thing you really can’t do on the films is, just because of mere real estate and time, is you can’t get into the nuance and complexity that would drive someone to commit a terrible act on this night. Whether it’s revenge or out of passion, but what might be interesting in a TV show is with a flashback narrative, if you start on Purge Night but you go back to show how people have gotten to where they are. Where you see a couple that’s gone haywire on this night, but let’s show everything that’s led up to this moment of a husband trying to kill a wife — the cheating or the accusations of cheating or money problems. It will be interesting to show those arcs, those dramatic and complex arcs that get people to where they pick up a gun or a knife and kill someone else. I think there’s something cool that we can do with the real estate of TV — 10 hours, potentially.”

Killogy Headhunting Contest Coming in October

Fans of Alan Robert’s Horror Comic winning Killogy will be interested the announcement that this October, Robert and his friends from Skelton Crew Studios will be having a Killogy “headhunting” contest.  For those not familiar with the masterfully constructed horror comic mashup, I originally described it as what would happen if George Romero and Martin Scorcese had a baby.

Beginning on October 1st, a plush zombie head from the hit comic will be hidden at a comic shop somewhere from Maine to California, yours free for the taking… you just have to get there first. By 8 p.m. EST each night, the location of the next day’s shop will be posted on  http://goheadhunting.com   Robert told Horror News Network, “October has always been my favorite time of year, for the obvious reasons. So, I really can’t think of better way to celebrate the days leading up to Halloween than searching for zombie heads for 31 days. It’s like a psychotic version of Pokemon Go!”

Fall TV – The Horror! The October Premieres (Part 1)

The fall TV shows just keep premiering as fast as we can watch/record them. October is a long month so we are breaking this segment into two parts.

Ash vs. Evil Dead. Sunday, October 2. 8PM on STARZ.

Ash is back again, baby! In fact, things are getting serious now because this guy is taking us home and introducing us to his father. And we thought we were just going to have some laughs and kill some deadites. This season of Ash vs. Evil Dead opens with Ash’s attempted life of retirement with his friends Pablo and Kelly going horribly wrong in the way it always does with our favorite anti-hero. What follows is a trip to Ash’s hometown of Elk Grove, Michigan, where Ash will try to right the wrongs of his past. Part of that is meeting up with a former sweetheart, Linda B. (Michelle Hurd) and trying to find common-ground with his father (Lee Majors). Although this may sound like a typical drama, let’s remember that this is the Evil Dead universe and nothing happens without buckets of blood, relentless snark, and violence that will make you both laugh and gasp. If you didn’t see Season 1 yet, get caught up now and get ready for Season 2!

The Strain’s Fourth and Final Season Announced

It was announced today that FX’s vampire hit The Strain will return for a fourth and what will be the show’s final season. The show, which has become a favorite amongst horror fans, is based on the best-selling trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, who along with Carlton Cuse make up the series’ creative team.

Currently airing its third season, The Strain was apparently only intended for a three to five season run according to del Toro’s comments to Deadline Hollywood back in September of 2012. Today after the announcement Cuse stated, “Our original plan was for the series to last three years.”  He went on to add “once we began telling that story it expanded to be more. After finishing the writing on Season 3, Guillermo, Chuck and I looked at our remaining story and felt the best version could be told in one more season.”

Luke Evans to Return as Dracula in Universal Monsters Shared Universe?

In an exclusive interview with LRM, Luke Evans speculated that his film Dracula Untold and his role as Vlad Tepes may lead to his involvement in Universal Studios planned “Cinematic Monster Universe”.  Evans told LRM that “There have been talks and conversations. I think the bigger picture is exciting for all the monsters that they own. There is talk about it. I just don’t know how it will all manifest itself. I think it will happen and I think they’re just working out how these monsters interact and how they end up in the same realm with each other. If they can stick Captain America in a scene with Iron Man and Thor, I think you can definitely put Wolf Man, the Invisible Man, The Mummy and Dracula in the same film as well.”
