Lionsgate Remaking Cult Hit ‘Cube’

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported today that Lionsgate is remaking the 1997 sci-fi cult hit ‘Cube’. Saman Kesh (Controller) is directing the re-imagining of the film, entitled ‘Cubed’.  Roy Lee and Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) are producing. ‘Cubed’ will follow the original story about seven strangers who are trapped in a massive cube-like building.  The new film is being described as “a sci-fi survival thriller about artificial intelligence, humanity and the birth of the new “digital” race.”  Using Kesh’s original idea, Phil Gawthorne is penning the script. Adam Stone (Vertigo) is over seeing production.   The original film, which came from the Canadian Film Centre’s First Feature Project was directed by Vincenzo Natali.

Ten Things You Might Not Know About … The Strangers!

10.  There were two special prosthetic makeups for Glenn Howerton. One of them was for fresh kill (which took 3 hours in the make-up chair), when he was shot in the face by Scott Speedman, and the other was for 1-hour-later prosthetics. 9.  According to Bryan Bertino and Liv Tyler, the finale had much more interaction and dialog between the victims and the strangers in the original script. It was cut to keep the intruders mysterious and eerie. 8.  Liv Tyler suffered from tonsillitis during shooting.

Bill Jemas Discusses New ‘Night of the Living Dead’ Comic Series

Take-Two Interactive, the video game publisher behind classics such as Grand Theft Auto, and Borderlands is branching out into comics with a new line of Night of the Living Dead books.

The company’s publishing imprint is called Double Take and is led by former Marvel Comics publisher Bill Jemas.

We caught up with Bill to talk about these upcoming comics.

Horror News Network: Do you recall the first time you saw Night of the Living Dead?

Bill Jemas: No, but I remember the last time I saw it. Recently. What a great piece of work. Schlocky, fun, scary in bits, but ultimately iconic.

Release Date, Screenwriters Announced For ‘Ouija’ Sequel

The sequel to last year’s ‘Ouija’, which starred Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), is moving along at Universal.  ‘Oculus’ writers Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard are penning the script. It will be hitting theaters Oct. 21, 2016.  Blumhouse Production’s Jason Blum, Platinum Dune’s Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis are producing.  The first film centered around a group of friends who inadvertently awaken a malevolent presence when they use a Ouija board to attempt to contact a classmate who died recently. The horror hit had  a budget of $5 million and   grossed  $50 million domestically and $100 million world wide.

Angela Bassett is Checking Into ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’

Angela Bassett joins ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’. Showrunner Ryan Murphy announced the news today via his Twitter account.  Murphy posted “In October, Angela Bassett will be making lots of trouble with Lady Gaga in the ballroom and elsewhere.”  This will be Bassett’s third season with FX’s American Horror Story. She co-starred in ‘Coven’ and ‘Freak Show’ previously.  

Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer star in season five, which will take place in a haunted hotel.   This is the first season without star Jessica Lange. Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Chlo Sevigny, Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson also star in the upcoming season, which will debut in October.

Perry and Taylor will produce alongside Tom Butterfield (upcoming WELCOME TO ME, LIFE AT THESE SPEEDS). The Producers are currently casting the project, which is set to start shooting in the Fall.

Syfy’s ‘Z Nation’s Adds Matt Cedeño As Series Regular

Syfy’s ‘Z Nation’ has cast Matt Cedeño (Devious Maids) as a series regular for the upcoming second season premiering this fall.  He is playing a mysterious bounty hunter named Vasquez who joins the team of zombie fighters. However he has questionable motives.  The Asylum (Sharknado) produces the action horror series, which takes places after a zombie apocalypse and centers around the fight to save the human race.
