One Hour to Die review

“Whoa. What just happened?” These were my initial impressions on viewing One Hour To Die, a British horror movie brought to us by Chemical Burn Entertainment. One item of interest is that this entire movie was done in one long continuous shot using a live action cameraman known as The Director in addition to what appears to be hidden cameras. Thus the entire movie is “real-time” and has a slightly voyeuristic feel.

The movie begins in the living room of Shirl, who is eagerly anticipating the arrival of her local priest for a birthday party she is throwing for him. Once the Father shows up, the party begins. Everyone seems to be having an alright time until Jessie enters the scene. At this point the movie takes on an awkward, nearly uncomfortable feeling. The group of adults begins to play games to pass the time. During nearly each game (as well as in between) Jessie seems to be doing everything in her power to increase the sexual tension between herself and each male in the room, including the Father who at times seems to feed into it. This doesn’t go unnoticed by Shirl or Toni, who both make their displeasure known to the Director’s camera. It additionally seems to lead them to lower their inhibitions a little bit. read more

Piranha 3DD review

I’m not going to lie – I was a big fan of the 2010 remake. I can fully appreciate when a horror movie realizes its comedic value. I even further appreciate when a horror movie plays on that comedic value and doesn’t try to pretend it has even a modicum of seriousness. I understand that’s not for everybody and people do exist who are forever searching out the next Citizen Kane of horror films. Piranha 3DD is not for these people. But for those who enjoy being able to laugh and groan along with their beloved gore this movie should be an instant classic. read more

Harvest #1 review

Human traffickers. Rogue medical teams. Yakuza run organ mills and a six year-old drug fiend. Welcome to Dr. Benjamin Dane’s nightmare. His only way out? Bring down the man who set him up by reclaiming organs already placed in some very powerful people. If Dexter, ER and 100 Bullets had a three-way and that mind blowing tryst somehow resulted in a kid, that kid would read HARVEST. Read the review by Senior Editor, Christine Caprilozzi below.

Official Word on Carrie Remake Released

The official synopsis for the remake of Stephen King's classic "Carrie" has been released. I know… I hear the remake groan out there, but the cast looks pretty stellar for this one. release is scheduled for March 2013.

Synopsis: “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine, is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter, Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of CARRIE earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. MGM and Screen Gems’ CARRIE is directed by Kim Peirce and produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies). J. Miles Dale (The Vow) serves as executive producer, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Big Love) wrote the script from King’s original story. CARRIE’s creative team includes Director of Photography Steve Yedlin (Looper), Production Designer Carol Spier (Eastern Promises), Costume Designer Luis Sequeira (The Thing) and Editor Lee Percy (Boys Don’t Cry).
